Nikko here we come! -Day 7
Gate to a shrine in Nikko

Today we had to say bye to our airbnb...😢

We slept in, but when we got up, started to pack our belongings, and locked up the place.

We then checked our luggages into a hotel for them to keep it while we are gone to Nikko.

Our train wasn't until 1:00 pm, so we went to Asakusa station and walked around and looked at shops, while waiting. We got mochi for the first time this trip!

But first, an early ramen lunch
Steve tried some dandan noodles for a change

We walked to the river and sat on some rocks. There, we relaxed and ate our mochi. A pigeon kept looking at us waiting for food. Here the pigeons are orderly, just like the people, because when we were leaving, some people were eating some stuff, and the pigeon was patiently waiting a metre ahead of them. It was not bothering them at all.

Mochi!
Yum!
Also yum!

After that, we went to board the train. Our train was a long, sleek model. On the train, it was very smooth, and not bumpy at all.

The ride was 1 hr 20 mins, but it went by quickly.

Japanese countryside

We arrived at the station, and went into the line for a bus that takes us to our hotel. The bus was super crowded, and we were forced to stand.

By the bus terminal in Nikko

After getting off the bus, we walked the rest of the way. We had to walk up a hill, but we saw a lot of shrines.

The hotel itself was a very traditional Japanese way of living. We had to wear yukatas. They are really nice but slightly impractical, especially for the wide sleeves.

The living space consists of tatami mats, and traditional Japanese sitting areas and sleeping areas.

This place also has onsens we can use them whenever we want. So of course we had to go for a quick soak before dinner.

Dinner was very elaborate!

Watch out for long sleeves when reaching for things!

We got to watch some Japanese tv in the room after dinner. Marcus was very happy to see a show talking about developing and maintaining the Shinkansen 500 series.

Before bed we had time for another soak in the hot springs, and a quick dessert.

Ice cream!

Time to sleep in our Futons!
